Not under parts as parts lists the actual parts, and not really (this is kind of borderline) in mechanics for the same reason as for mountains. I think it's best to just put this under Resources. It's a page about it's own category so it should probably belong to it. |

This article is talking about resources, see this category for the list .
Resources are the main components of nearly every item in Waste of Space. They are mainly used as ingredients in recipes when crafting the items needed to play the game.
In the crafting menu (V), Resources, which is a button in the menu, is a category tab that lets you see the list of parts, most of which are able to be obtained from ore deposits by either clicking on them with the Pickaxe or using extractors or MiningLasers, and some can only be obtained through other processes (For example, to obtain Glass you need to smelt it in a Kiln).
Resources[edit | hide all | hide | edit source]
This is a list of resources that are part of the category tab named "Resources" in the craft menu.
Common Resources[edit | hide | edit source]
The following resources are found on most planets:
- Iron - An incredibly important part for building and crafting.
- Copper - One of the most important parts, as it is needed for wires. Your base should be near a copper supply.
- Coal - Used for burner generators and boilers to make Power.
- Water - Can be made into steam to generate Power, obtained by using a Pump submerged in water or melting Ice.
- Stone - A early game building material. It is used to make Templates and Rubber.
- Sand - Can be turned to Glass by using a Kiln or burning it.
- Snow - Can be melted into Water.
The following resources that randomly appear from harvesting mountains (Stone Deposits). The only resource that is always dropped after harvesting is stone, and others can be randomized to one appearing at a time:
- Quartz - Used for many electronics.
- Sulfur - Used for many weapons. It is also useful for making PowerCells
- Ruby - Used for making NightVisionGoggles.
- Flint - Very useful for starting fires early in the game.
- Silicon - Used for many electronic and wiring-related parts.
- Helium - Can be used as ammo for PlasmaCannons, Touching it will hurt!
- Oil - Used for making Gasoline and Petroleum.
- Ice - Used for physical machines. It can be turned into Water by burning it or using a Melter
Biological Resources[edit | hide | edit source]
The following ressources can only be found on planets with life (such as Earthlikes(Also know as starter planets), Terras or Forests) or produced trough Hydroponic.
- Grass - A burnable material used to make Rubber, can be mined on the ground with the grass texture.
- Wood - A basic resource that can be harvested from trees, used for some crafting recipes of basic structures or to sustain fire.
- Stick - Can be harvested from trees. It is used for a few crafting recipes.
Advanced Resources[edit | hide | edit source]
These resource deposits are not found on Earthlike planets and require space travel to obtain, making them one of the game's only progressions:
- Uranium - Radioactive resource used in reactors to create Steam or NuclearWaste.
- Aluminum - Weak and Very light, it is used in crafting.
- Diamond - Used for advanced technology such as Lasers
- Lead - Used for recipes related to radiation or weaponry
- Jade - Used in a few recipes, otherwise Unremarkable.
- Gold - Used in a few recipes, otherwise Unremarkable.
- Titanium - A tough material used for armors.
- Beryllium - Used to create the PlutoniumCore center element of the most devastating weapon; the Warhead.(Can only be found on Barren planets)
Manufactured Resources[edit | hide | edit source]
The following resources can only be produced by machinery or crafting.
- Glass - Can be obtained from cooking sand in a Kiln or on a fire]], Mostly decorative but has crafting uses.
- Steam - Can be obtained from Boilers or Reactors, solely used in SteamTurbines or SteamEngines to produce Power, or Rotation.
- Petroleum and Gasoline - Obtained from a Refinery Processing Oil.
- Rubber - Obtained from crafting Stone and Grass together. Used in recipes mainly related to fluids.
- NuclearWaste - Can be obtained from the Reactor's meltdown after reaching over 1230 °F or by being triggered to drop it by FlipFlop Polysilicon. Note that the reactor must reach less than a ninth, which is around 0.9, of the fuel rod if you want to obtain it.
Exotic Resources[edit | hide | edit source]
These resource are hard to obtain and require special technology to get.
- ExoticMatter - Can be rarely obtained from alien fighters, which have bins and containers
- DarkMatter - Can be obtained by using DarkReactor in black hole regions
- Neutronium, Hydrogen and Plasma - Can be obtained by using the SolarScoop facing stars
- AlienCore - Can be obtained from defeating Aliens
Unobtainable Resources[edit | hide | edit source]
The following resources that are unobtainable to any players or have been removed.
- Lava - A proposed fluid that is unobtainable.
- Magnesium - A metal that was used to make PowerCells and Batteries, it was removed due to gravity-related glitch.
- NitrogenOxide - A proposed, unimplemented gas.
- Perfectium - A insanely malleable resource that is unbreakable.
- Obamium - 2021 April fools resource.
- Stanlium - 2023 April fools resource, its description was semi-random.
Randomly generated resources[edit | hide | edit source]
Materials that are not in the list of the craft menu are called "Randomly generated resources" or "Custom resources". These resources are exclusive to the planet they generated on. All planets except for Earthlikes will have these materials, and a planet can only have one random material. The resources will have random properties, ranging from non-malleable and brittle, to stretchier and harder than most resources, while others could be radioactive or even explode on contact with other resources. Some of these properties can be known the name are searched up in the help menu when the player is at the planet the resource is generated on.
Known random resource effects:
- Radioactivity
- Cools/heats on contact with another resource
- Emits light on contact with another resource
- Generates power on contact with another resource (removed)
- Explodes on contact with another resource
- Random malleability
- Random durability
- Flammable (With a randomly generated fire color)
