Barren planets are rocky, ore-rich planets, often with inhospitable conditions.

    Features[edit | hide all | hide | edit source]

    • Barren planets have flat terrain grouped into a few larger continents. They have a fair number of often shorter mountains, and are rich with ore.
    • Beryllium, which is used in the production of warheads, is specific to this planet type.
    • These planets do not contain any vegetation, nor do they have oceans.
    • The conditions on a barren planet are often inhospitable. Their temperature and atmosphere breathability varies.
    • Barren planets with a breathable atmosphere produce a constant wind noise. Some players find this sound annoying, or otherwise unpleasant.
    • They can be distinguished on a StarMap due to their pebble-like textured image. (See image, perhaps in a new tab -> )

    Colonization[edit | hide | edit source]

Barren planets are ideal for setting up mining operations, production facilities, or large bases due to their usual abundance of ores on their surface. They also make great planets for prospecting players who wish to build Warheads due to (often, note some barren planets lack it) containing beryllium deposits.

Their conditions are usually hospitable enough to not be too much of a pain to colonize, though note that certain barren planets can generate with absolutely scorching or frigid temperatures which in turn make colonization efforts much harder. Always use a Telescope to check a barren planet's conditions before entering it.

One major challenge with successfully colonizing (and conquering) barren planets is their lack of Water and vegetation. This makes Rubber production, which is quite essential, impossible without bringing a Hydroponic beforehand or using the method outlined in Tips&Tricks. Water can always be mined from mountains, though having to use Melters can prove problematic when dealing with water-hungry and energy-limited bases.
