    Waste Of Space Wiki

Combat is an important part of Waste of Space, and fighting players and NPCs will be very important if you wish to do well in the game and progress. This page will give you basic information on combat, strategies, and weapons.

    Weapons/Offense[edit | hide all | hide | edit source]

Weapons are a large part of combat and allow you to damage players, structures, and parts. There are a large variety of weapons and weapon systems, ranging from small and basic to huge and advanced. There are multiple types of weapons:

    • Ballistic weapons - Weapons that rely on a projectile that travels at a certain speed and does damage upon hitting a target. Examples:
    • Laser/hitscan weapons - Weapons that fire a beam with no travel time.
    • Explosive weapons- Weapons or parts that explode and create an area of damage.
    • Melee weapons- Weapons that deal damage on contact.

To use these weapons effectively, you must know how they work, supply them with ammunition (if they require it), and mount them effectively so they can be used on your foes.

    Defense[edit | hide | edit source]

    Main Article: Defending Yourself
Defending against attacks can be done in multiple ways. The most obvious is to make your vehicles and buildings out of strong materials that are resistant to damage, but this is not the only way to protect your things. Other methods include:
    Offensive Defences
While physical defenses play a large part in defense, offense is very important, as without it, bases will easily be able to fall to griefers. There are lots of options for this, but most include guns and energyguns. Some options for offense include:

    Other Defenses

    • Shields - An EnergyShield can protect your base or vehicles while they are supplied with energy. Best for large ships or bases with a powerful power supply.
    • Camouflage - You can protect your buildings by hiding or disguising them. Not being seen makes it difficult for the enemy to hurt you, but you shouldn't rely completely on this to protect you.
    • Speed - Faster things are harder to hit. If you make your ships and vehicles fast enough, they will be difficult to hit. Again, this isn't 100% foolproof, so it is suggested you still use some amount of armor.

    Strategies[edit | hide | edit source]

This is a WIP, so expect more to come!
You may come across a lot of players in the WOS universe, and most situations vary. However, most players are not friendly, and most would rather gun down your ship for spare resources. Here are some strategies if you ever come across a player.

    • If the propulsion is exposed, aim for that, as without it, ships cannot move
    • When making a ship that is not armed for an unexpected fight, try putting on an impulse drive as it'll easily get you out of fights
    • If the weaponry is exposed, try to get that first so the player has nothing to shoot at you.
    • Try bringing some lasers in case the player's power supply or solar panels are exposed, and set them alight
    • Don't venture around black hole or neutron stars, as Aliens can spawn around them, and griefers tend to explore these regions.
    • If your ship is small and agile, then griefers will have a very hard time aiming at you, but this isn't 100% foolproof, so don't depend on it
    • Energy shields are great for ship defense, as it blocks most most weaponry. Don't depend on this, however, because certain weapons such as guns are not blocked by it.

    Enemies[edit | hide | edit source]

You will no doubt encounter multiple enemies in your adventures. To fight them, you must evaluate their strengths and weaknesses and use them to your advantage.

    • Aliens - AI alien ships that will attack you on sight. Their main weapons are lasers and often attack in groups, meaning energy shields are essential for alien combat.
    • Players - Players are a large threat in Waste of Space. Every person is different and player ships range wildly in design, so you must evaluate them on a case-by-case basis. However, not all players are threats. You can team up with some players, allowing for you to create a team/faction for people to help you fight, and keep an eye on the base while you are gone.
