    Revision as of 02:22, 2 September 2023 by Topoj9 (talk | contribs)

AMOGUSSUS, WILL YOU STOP ADDING MULTIPLE BIASED PAGES?

Amogusus, you added a guiding page but it is already there a long time ago: https://wasteofspace.miraheze.org/wiki/Getting_Started. Not only this but YOU ALSO DID THESE PAGES WHICH OLD ONES ARE ALREADY ADDED:

which makes this wiki have a bad navigation for noobs. STOP IT NOW!

And if you want to update info, just replace texts on pages. Use common sense before i will tell an admin named Axeroni - Anonymous User

Hello Anonymous User (and any other wikians reading this),
I'd first and foremost like to apologize for my inactivity in light of this situation. I only really patrol the wiki monthly and have only now seen these changes. I'll try to increase the frequency with which I check on the wiki in the future.
    As for the situation itself..
While the most reasonable course of action would be a mass-rollback/deletion, I'm not sure this is the right decision in this case. The user's contributions include novel work, which I wouldn't want to discard (especially as it addresses some issues in existing articles which needed dire fixing). The only problem is that they don't seem to want to contribute to current articles, but rather create their own (as you have pointed out and I have confirmed). While I do appreciate their effort, the entire purpose of a wiki is to build on existing knowledge and incrementally improve it. Their articles also don't really adhere to the quality standards of the wiki.
I propose that we merge their novel work into the appropriate existing pages and give them a heads up. If they continue to act like this I will unfortunately be forced to block their contributions, at least for a short while.
I'll start cleaning up in a little under 72h (3 days) from this response. Please let me know of your opinions until then so I know how to proceed to best represent the interests of the community. --Axenori (talk) 22:14, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
RE: After checking up on the wiki today I have determined that the user has realized their mistakes and has tried to mend them. I implore them to continue their current behaviour, especially as they have shown a great eagerness to contribute useful and relevant information to the wiki. I'll start cleaning up by removing old articles and perhaps polishing up a few existing ones.
As this issue is now closed I will delete this topic in a week from now. --Axenori (talk) 16:28, 25 August 2023 (UTC)

AmongSus, please use proper spelling and linking

I read a few of your edits, and a lot of them are missing linking or spelling. A lot of the edits use words such as u instead of you, and a most of your edits don’t include linking (eg Gyro). It would be very helpful if you used proper spelling and linked to other pages, and used complete words (eg Polysilicon instead of poly), as it will really help starters navigate the wiki. Thanks.

Where should the community gallery be placed?

If you've seen the main page recently, you'll know that there is now a community gallery. Should it be placed before Useful Resources, or after it?

Anybody know how to withdraw from a bin?

Holy jesus of god, Mattyloi2009, can u stop making pages that are unadded or not related to Waste of space?

Unless, developers added them. Bruh, you made a page like 'Factions' and it is not related to Waste of space because faction features are never added or just upcoming feature. They are unofficial (and ye truly groups). People will be confused if they saw that and will tell developers to remove off-topic pages. - 171.252.153.164

Some people have heard your typo: "Factions are a medium to large group of players". Like dude, people can't understand your grammar. Let me give you a tip that "a" is ONE number of an object so i should understand - 171.252.153.164
For the love of god, just fix a typo if you see one, not all of us have good grammar, and the "factions" thing is ANOTHER name for groups. and i did NOT mention it was a feature - mattyloi2009
Unofficial content such as factions should belong in the Community . The wiki serves to document the game, not the community. Unofficial content can be incredibly useful though; such as in the case of custom boilers. However, if this is the case, the page should explicitly state it is UNINTENDED. This does not validate telling people "your grammar sucks", however. Doing this on the wiki is highly unprofessional and is discouraged. Discussions should be civilized. Axenori (talk) 16:50, 30 August 2022 (UTC)Axenori
After some reconsidering I've decided to give unofficial and/or unintended content a place on the wiki, though it must be of at least decent quality, and should be grouped under the new Category:Community category. The stance twoards these types of articles will be MUCH stricter than usual ones; articles not adhering to at least some standard of quality will immediately be deleted, and all community articles must explicitly state that they are a community article. What heat measurement system is used?

I have 0 clue if they use celsius or american - Ccplover2

a part Instrument. If you think it is wrong, then please tell me. - 171.252.153.156
RE:[Ccplover2] Waste of Space uses fahrenheit as its unit of measurement for temperature (I think this is what you wanted to ask?). No measurement unit exists for heat in the game, though that would be measured in joules in real life :') --Axenori (talk) 19:51, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

    Deletion reasoning for factions/players

(Hi! Just a heads up. This is meant for editors wondering what the deletion reason was for faction/player pages. If this doesn't describe you it likely won't be of interest to you.)

(tl;dr: articles about players or groups of players don't serve a useful purpose and as such unnecessarily strain miraheze's storage infrastructure)

Articles about players or groups of players are not welcome on this wiki as they are: 1) Prone to becoming obsolete; players inevitably stop actively playing, effectively rendering these kinds of articles usless. This becomes impossible to indefinitely maintain as only administrators can delete pages, and the same principle as for players applies. Factions are groups of player so this directly extends to them aswell. This excess data puts unnecessary strain on miraheze's infrastructure. 2) NOT: metainformational/organization articles (eg. Improving the wiki. These are of use to contributors) OR historical information (eg. April fools events. These are of use to end users who wish to learn about events they did not experience) OR content explicitly contained within the game (eg. Resources. There are of use to players who require information about a specific mechanic or item) OR a guide or tutorial (These are useful to players who require help with the game). The commonality between all of these is that they are related to the game or wiki and are of practical use to all end users (a good rule of thumb is to imagine yourself as a contributor or new player. If this article is potentially useful to you it likely belongs on the wiki). While these types of articles are related to the game, they are only really serve the same player or group of players who created them; they do not serve all end users. As such we can say that "they don't serve a useful purpose".

Articles which cover unofficial or unintended content (such as this one!) should ALWAYS explicitly be marked as such by using Template:CommunityWarning.

As this wiki is by the users for the users, if there is a large enough push by the users and or editiors, we could compromise on a solution like organizing these types of articles into a single list so the community can self-regulate and prune bad additions without potentially wiki-disrupting permissions which griefers could use to cause catastrophic damage. To let me know about any ideas or complaints regarding this please let me know by leaving your comment on the talk page of Improving the wiki.
