The extractor is one of the most important parts for mining resources automatically. It is essential for constructing bases and factories, as it automates the harvesting of resources, generating two resources per second when directly attached to it. For example, if the extractor is connected to an Iron deposit and set to Iron with a hammer tool, it will extract Iron from the deposit and place it in an attached bin or spew it out.

    In-game description

"Extracts and harvests materials from connected terrain such as mountains and ore deposits. For example, to extract coal you attach it to the coal deposit, and configure the extractor to extract Coal. The extractor must be powered in order to work. Will not work if there's another powered extractor 50 studs away. If connected to a bin, it will supply that bin with the given material it is tasked to extract. Two powered extractors cannot be on the same ore deposit, or else they both will not function. If the materials can't be added to a bin, they will spawn in front of the hole on the front of the extractor. However, if the extractor is blocked by an object, it will not spew out any materials which prevents an increase on lag. When tasked to extract wood, it will extract any trees near it."

    Setting up an extractor

To set up a functional extractor, you will need the following items:

    • Bin (for outputted resource)
    • Extractor (for outputting the resource)
    • A power storage source, such as a PowerCell (must have enough energy to power the extractor)

To set up an extractor, you will need to follow these steps.

    • Connect the Extractor to a resource deposit
    • Configure the Extractor using the hammer to the desired resource's name (it is case-sensitive meaning "Iron" will work, but "iroN" or "iron" will not work)
    • Connect the output bin to the extractor either directly, or using a chute system
    • Connect it to the power storage source either using wires, or directly

    Important Notes

    • Extractors will not work if they are less than 40 studs apart from another extractor
    • There cannot be multiple extractors configured to the same resource on most deposits, or it will not work (exceptions being grass, sand, snow, and stone deposits)
    • Extractors can also work in space. Your extractor must be rotated with a hammer tool, and make sure its hole is on the top side to work.
