Neutron stars are a special type of star. They can be used to gain Neutronium (a rare resource) via SolarScoop.
Along with Black Hole regions, Neutron Star regions are one of the best places to hunt Aliens as they have a 35% chance of spawning every 30 minutes in them. Solar scoop can extract 60 Helium, 15 Plasma, 45 Hydrogen, 20 Iron, (1 Neutronium per ~2 minutes) from it.
