Barren planets are rocky, ore-rich planets that are very easy to traverse and inhabit. They are rewarding to explore due to their abundance of ore, but some of them do not have air so u will need air supply which is not problem. Making a base on a Barren planet is good idea due to their ores and flatness. Barren planets are the only planets that have Beryllium, making them useful for making warheads.
BUT there is issue if there is air it will be very annoying due to annoying wind sound.

Barrens have very flat surface and few continents with mountains.
They do not have oceans.
