    * As their name implies, this planet type is fully covered in water.
    * Despite mostly having hospitable conditions, they are difficult to traverse and inhabit due to the buoyancy and opacity of water. Both of these challenges can be overcome by building out an enclosed space. A [[ScubaMask]] can also help with visibility.
    * Ocean planets have a relatively flat seabed. This seabed is by itself mostly barren, being broken up only by occasional mountains or ore deposits.
    * Their seabeds do not contain any vegetation.
    * Ocean planets' seabed is made of shallower barren regions encircling larger protruding "islands". These islands proportionally contain more mountains and ore deposits compared to the shallower barren regions around them.
    * They can generate with any of the ores from the standard set. These are moderately to poorly abundant on them.
    * As one descends into the depths of an ocean planet, the visibility within the water decreases as does the amount of light. Near their seabed, ocean planets are fairly dark during the day, and absolutely pitch black during the night.

    Ocean planets are a rare pick, though their niche can prove desirable for certain players. They make a good pick for setting up hidden bases, and are of course also desirable if one wishes to test or deploy naval or submarine equipment due to their vast oceans. Their ore deposits and should prove abundant enough for a small to medium sized based.
    * Mountainous areas on the seabed are usually clumped together into "Islands", which hold most of the planet's resources. As such they are an ideal spot for establishing a submarine base or mining operation.

    Ocean planets almost always generate with hospitable conditions, with extremes being only slightly too hot or cold. This is by far their slightest problem, however. The oceans of ocean planets can prove quite difficult to work in, as they constantly push the player up due to buoyancy. They also heavily obscure their view given they are not wearing a [[ScubaMask]]. Both of these problems can be nullified by building out an enclosed space, though this is, of course, not really a solution when setting up mining operations (unless an ambitious large glass-dome-like structure is built).

    Due to this reason however, not many players pick them so they can make great hiding spots. Especially so as bases can easily be hidden in crevices and detailed on-foot (well, flipper) exploration is hard.

    Except for the difficulty of underwater construction, ocean planets won't provide many other difficulties during colonization.
