The Model Builder studio plugin is a useful tool for creating structures, items, or other things that you wish to load into the game. This is very useful for vehicles and prefab structures, as it allows you to load the object in rather than needing to construct it. It is also useful for creating vehicles, kits, and other things you may want to load into the game.

    How to use

    Plugin

    Installing

Installing the Model Builder Plugin is a simple task.

    1. Go to https://www.roblox.com/library/6724254977/MBTools and press install. (You will need to install Roblox Studio if it is not already installed on your computer)

    Using the Plugin

To use the plugin, open any place (Baseplate is recommended) and then navigate to the "Plugins" tab at the top of the screen. There should be a "Compiler" and "Configure" button. Press "Compiler" to open up the main widget where you will find several options available.

    • Malleability Check - If a part is incorrectly sized, it will have a red selection box while selected if enabled
    • Insert Menu - A list of parts that you can click on to insert
    • Template Material - The material that a template will be set to if inserted using the Insert Menu
    • Round Decimals - When checked will round long decimals created from floating point error. Try disabling this if your model falls apart after loading.
    • Compile - This will compile all of the parts you have selected. If a model or folder is selected, the parts in the model and folder will also be compiled.

In the "Configure" widget, you are able to edit part configuration that can be edited ingame using the adjust tool. For example, selecting a HyperDrive will show a textbox where you can edit the Coordinates of the HyperDrive, as shown below:

    Uncopylocked game (Old Method)

*Note: The model builder place page has not been updated since 4/27/2021. The plugin should be used for future models, and work in the model builder place cannot be guaranteed to work properly in the future.*

Once at the Model Builder place page, click the three dots next to the name, and then "Edit". This will open Roblox Studio. Simply drag parts into the build area to build your creation (be sure to remove them from the folder directory first.)

After you're done building, click "play" or "Run". If done correctly, a notification should pop up instructing you to open the Output window. Do this, and copy the large block of text.

In the Compile script, there are multiple settings and a large list of the "malleability" values of all the parts. The malleability is the maximum volume the part can take up. Edits to these values do not reflect in the actual game, so trying to increase a part's malleability this way does not work. Surpassing the malleability of a part will cause errors in the save, so remember to consult these values regularly and make sure you do not surpass them.

    Tips

    • You may need to use GhostBin or GitHub Gists to host your model's code. This can enable you to load larger models, as the roblox textbox limit is 16,000 characters, which is often surpassed by very large or expensive models.
    • It can be useful to save your studio files and/or model text for future use, as you don't want to lose your creations.
    • More parts will make the save longer and more expensive, so try to conserve parts, especially on constructions meant to be cheap and loaded repeatedly, like missiles or small vehicles.
    • You can use a Constructor to spawn models automatically.
